*FAQs
- Are there any special requirements to participate in this tour?
You will be required to sign two liability releases - one for 907 Tours, and one for the Matanuska Glacier Park. Parents of children under 18 must complete a waiver for their child.
- Is there an age requirement for the glacier hike?
Children must be 8 years of age to participate. A parent or guardian will need to sign the child’s liability release.
- How long is the trip to the glacier?
Drive time to the glacier is 2 hours. We'll make a brief rest stop about halfway there.
- Will there be a lunch stop?
We will stop on our way to the glacier where you can purchase lunch and snacks. You are also welcome to bring along any items you choose. We'll have time to picnic after the hike before returning to Anchorage.
- How difficult is the hike?
You will be on the glacier for approximately 2.5 to 3 hours and walk around 3 miles (3.2 km). The tour requires walking on a slippery uneven surface. The guides at the glacier will provide micro-spikes for more secure footing. These spikes stretch to fit over your boots. You will be walking and stopping to listen to the guides.
- What's the weather like? What should I wear?
Summer temperatures can range from 45 to 80 F (7 - 27 C). Dress in layers. Bring a light windbreaker or fleece jacket and a hat. Long pants rather than shorts are recommended. Always bring more layers than fewer. Remember sunglasses and sunscreen. There is plenty of room for backpacks and you can always leave things in the van when you go out onto the ice.
- What kind of shoes should I wear?
We recommend light hiking boots for maximum comfort. Tennis shoes/sneakers are also OK in summer. You will be outfitted with microspikes that slip over your shoes so no heels, please! Absolutely no flip-flops or sandals.
- I’m traveling solo – can I go on your tour(s)?
At 907 Tours we have many independent travelers join our tours. However, all of our tours have a two-guest minimum. If a tour already has at least 2 guests then yes, you can book a single ticket via the 907tours website. If a tour doesn’t yet have 2 guests, we can put you on a standby list and let you know no later than 24 hours in advance whether or not the tour is happening
